'A Tawdry Lust For Fame' By Ian Tomlinson's Family?

I was roundly condemned by certain posters following my recent thread where I queried whether that his family's grief was genuine - or merely an attempt to garner public support in a quest for monetary compensation?
The above article suggests that it could possibly be the latter?
1: Mr Tomlinson had not shared a home with his 'caring family' for 13 years.
2: His 'grieving widow', Julia, had a total of 9 children, only 4 of whom were Mr Tomlinson's.
3: Mr Tomlinson, a chronic alcoholic, had been living for many years in hostels - NOT with any of his now 'caring & grieving' family with whom he apparently had lost touch.
So, is the columnist correct in labelling them and their public outpourings as a 'tawdry lust for fame'? I know what I think!

It is worth remembering that Harwood's moment of Gross Misconduct was witness by a dozen on duty officers and not one reported him.

It was only by chance a member of the public had caught Harwood's thuggery on film and posted it on the internet. If that had not happened then Harwood would still be in post, a 'tamed' but incompetent pathologist would still be in post and Tomlinson's death would have passed as unremarkable.

There was already a very dark cloud overshadowing Dr Patel's professional reputation. His appointment to examine the body of Tomlinson was a successful attempt to muddy the waters, protect the reputation of the police, and ensure that the man responsible for the death would never face justice.

sandy...well. if he was on the panel of Home Office pathologists and had 68 "failings" in the post mortem of Ian Tomlinson, then the standard of Forensic pathology in the UK is at "rock bottom"

Really believe that do you Gromit? The incident happened in a flash yet there was a member of the public who just conveniently happened to capture it on camera, and then the clip became the property of the Guardian.

Seeing that there was little of the action happening around the said assault, don't you find it rather strange that this person happened to luckily focus on to it, especially if one takes into account how long it takes to switch a camera phone over to video, and then focus on the subject matter?

1: So you KNOW 100% that none of those Police Officers was ever called upon to give evidence at Harwood's Crown Court triel by the very prosecution trying to convict 'one of their own'? That none of them was ever required to submit a written statement of evidence? Stupifying in the extreme!

There is a difference between not reporting a crime and then cooperatiing with an investigation when that wrongdoing is revealed.
- Harwood was surrounded by clleagues who could not have failed to see his actions. No police officer didn't report the incident.
- It was then widely reported a man had died on the demonstration. No police officer reported the Harwood incident.
- The film showing Harwood hitting Tomlinson could be viewed on the internet. None of Harwood's colleagues who were on the film still did not come forward.
When Harwood was identified and they were questioned, only then did they tell what happened. They may have cooperated when they had to, but they did their best to conceal the truth.

You have totally failed to address the points I made...points made from my own extensive experience in the Police. Instead, your mere suggestion that so many Officers not only colluded - following the full glare of public awareness - but by your very inference, did so deliberately, is not only a gross insult to all serving Police Officers, but suggests to me that you actually believe some of the dross 'dramas' on TV which usually portray the Police in that same old stereotypical manner - yawn, yawn, yawn.
