Mr Romney basically disowned around half of America's population by his crass remarks, secretly recorded.

Is his campain now fatally flawed because of this gaffe?

Remember, this is a Party that thinks Reagan, Bush and Palin are suitable individuals to be put in chanrge of the country, when any right-thinking person would not trust any of them to walk their dog!

what a surprise, his gaffes are almost as bad as George W, and his were legendary.
hes got one of those forgetable names and anagrams of " into my term" , "my i torment" and" im not mr yet"
because I have 20 or so US Facebook members, due to them also being Garth fans, I have seen so many damning links about Romney, this is the latest, same story ,

Even those who do pay taxes may feel that someone who tries to identify with NASCAR fans by saying some of his friends own NASCAR teams, who says evidence of his supporting the US car industry is that his wife has a couple of Cadillacs, who offers a friendly bet of $10,000 in a discussion, who is reluctant to declare his own tax returns when he pays 13 per cent to 17 per cent tax on incomes of millions, is not someone whose interest is their own. He also thinks that middling income is '$200, 000 to $250,000'.

It can only get worse, because his mindset is genuine but out of touch. He has known no other way.
He'll not sway NASCAR fans unless he gets Garth on board and guess who sang live at Obama's inauguration? lol
"believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing"

??????
Bush said plenty of stupid things but I don't think he ever directly insulted the American electorate.
Not a clever thing to do if you want them to vote for you. It's like doing a Ratner.
I think the only reason anyone is voting for this guy is because of an antipathy towards the Obama administration. Mitt Romney looks hapless, and the number of gaffes just keeps rising.

For those opposed to the Obama Presidency, it must be quite galling they cannot do better than Mr.Romney as candidate....
A right-winger in the US speaks out, not entirely gently, against Romney:

Mitt Romney is the best the Republicans can come up with? Oh dear... anyway, why would you ever vote for anybody named after an oven glove?
I find it depressing that such a individual could even be in the running to be President of the USA. Were Republicans always this abject, or have they got even more like caricatures of themselves over the years?
\\\\The Republican told a group of donors that the 47 per cent of Americans who do who do not pay income tax would automatically support President Barack Obama because they "believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it".\\\

Absolutely true.

\\\\My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives," Mr Romney says\\\\

A bit OTT perhaps BUT

47% who would vote for Obama is less than half......depending upon distribution in the different states.......Romney could win and win well.
He seems to be as much in touch with the american electorate as he is with god.
sqad...you are making the assumption that only that 47% that does not pay income tax-the poor and working poor-will vote for Obama. There are plenty of well-off,monied, and middle class Democrats who will also.
I do t think being 'fit' for office holds much sway with the American public. Nixon. Reagan. Bush senior. Not much of a track record.
pasta...yes... I appreciate that, but i was trying to be "neutral"....;-)

em

\\what a surprise, his gaffes are almost as bad as George W, and his were legendary.\\

and he was returned to the Oval Office to serve two consecutive terms.
I can't see the problem here. He's telling Republican voters exactly what they want to hear (because they believe it already). Democrats won't believe it, but they're not going to vote for him anyway (there were "Democrats for Reagan", but I'd be astonished if many Democrats consider voting for Romney.)

It's an undignified thing to say, and I think Romney would be a bad president; but this is just election talk, and this year especially there's already been a humungous number of lies told on the campaign trail.
The Americans seem to have a philosophy of every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost.
The working poor there have a nerve expecting that their children should have a roof over their heads, clothes on their backs, and a decent meal now and again.
Just back from the USA and the same complaint was coming from a lot of people, they feel there's a poor choice. The Obama supporters seemed to be in a slight majority but the Mutt Romney fans were the most vitriolic and hateful, typical rednecks. If any suggestion was made that maybe Obama's economic problems stem from the inheritance of a financial disaster of the previous, Republican, administration's making, suddenly we were interfering Brits!
Thank God for the Olympics and Prince Harry as the other main topics of interest. Many found Romney's comments re the Olympics an embarrassment and loved Cameron's comment that SLC is in the middle of nowhere, some had even encountered Boris via the TV and couldn't believe he was the Lord Mayor of London, too complicated to even try and correct!
"same complaint as in 2008"
