speculation abounds as to his reasons for announcing this now, but it may just be his right time to go.

but who to succeed? amongst the candidates, I believe one stands head and shoulders above the rest, the present archbishop of York. Not because he'd be the first black archbishop of Canterbury, but because John Sentamu is probably the best CofE churchman in Britain today.

but what thinks you?

Wouldn't have thought it mattered to more than a dwindling minority

Perhaps they could get Simon Cowell to organise a competition, that might raise some interest
I would prefer Richard Chartres of London but he won't get the job because he is far too orthodox and traditional for today's chatterati.
of no relevance to me sorry!

probably NOT a woman though ...
"The Crosier Factor"

"Strictly Come Blessing"
'Not-the-Pope' Idol........?
crucifix factor ...
I shall raise a glass to the fact that he is going - hooray - can't it be sooner. He has done so much damage.

I have a contender, Tom Wright, was BoDurham and recently made top Prof of Theology at St Andrews, still so soon that he could leave - very much a theologian and unifier and not a fan of Williams...
b*gger, why didn't I think of that one ...?
The Cross Factor
lol ...
John Sentamu is lovely, and I think would be a great unifier. However, we'd like to keep him in York.

craft, we were sorry when you poached him from birmingham.
Cross, Crosier, Crucifix or the Beckett Sackcloth Factor.....hee hee.

Who on the Judges (i) Chief Rabbi Sachs (ii) Naomi (iii) and (iv)?

Sally Magnusson (naked) and Stephen Fry to compere?
Does it make you feel good DT, denigrating someone's religion?
Put an advert in the Guardian for another Cross dresser.
Does it matter ? It's all a load of bunkum to me but the C of E is possibly the least steeped in mythology and ritual than other religions.
. As far as RW is concerned he was too luvvy duvvy with the Pope for my liking .
I don't know John Sentamu so I can't comment on: #John Sentamu is probably the best CofE churchman in Britain today. #
Why do you think that. ?
I am not a fan of Williams ok - and Tom Wright would be an excellent candidate.. And what's degenerating about that - just some light fun building on the other's remarks.

//why do you think that?//
experience. he was bishop of birmingham before moving to york. and just the same in real life as he appeared on local TV.
<<Does it make you feel good DT, denigrating someone's religion? >>

Well it does me - and why not?

If it looks like a load of nonsense, walks like a load of nonsense and quacks like a load of nonsense

it's probably a load of nonsense

can't see any harm in pointing that out

if 'someone' is bothered by that it doesn't say much for the robustness of their beliefs
Sentamu, well, it would be wonderful to have an archbishop who's on News International's payroll, they've already bought up politicians and policemen. Why shouldn't the entire establishment be in Murdoch's pocket?
