No shared hotel bedrooms by non married couples

No alcohol in the hotel

A separate bay on the beach for women separated from men, so that the two sides can enjoy a vacation for a week without sins.

Cleric Yasser Bourhami said,

"The tourist doesn't have to swim with a bikini and harm our youth".

/// Azza al-Jarf, a candidate for the Muslim Brotherhood, told supporters: 'Tourists don't need to drink alcohol when they come to Egypt; they have plenty at home. ///

Well to all you who look forward to your hols, would that Egypt attract you?

Nope.

Sounds like a perfect holiday for Emma West!
like any muslim country, if i know the rules and tolerances before i go then i just get on with it and enjoy me holidays. but yes if the dynamics of the resort changed to that extent it would put me off going i suppose.

it would remind me too much of the time i spent working in the middle east which is bearable to a point, but not for holidays wearing my mankini and drinking pina colada with a cocktail umbrella in.

I have holidayed in Tunisia and there was no trouble drinking alcoholic drinks.

The only trouble was, they didn't serve pints, the beer was in small bottles poured into glasses not much bigger than a wine glass.

Ah, well each to their own.
Egypt brew some fine beers, Shakara, Luxor and Stella (Not the french one). It will be a multi million pound industry and the manufacturers of those products will resist such a move. It is possible to be a secular country and muslim as well. Turkey is a fine example.

It depends who wins in the elections, but Egypt's population is young. They have just deposed one tyranny, they will not elect a new one.
I wouldn't go to Egypt anyway.

I've been there for work, and I was not impressed.

We will have to wait and see, but the future there doesn't look good so far.

Incidentally, like your new Christmas rig-out, how long did you have to wait for that to come?
We have been to Egypt a) to see the truly amazing archeological sites and Nile cruise and b) for the Red Sea scuba diving which is superb especially if you can get to the quieter dive sites.

Other than that Sharm is just another modern development on the edge of a scrubby desert.

We are planning a diving holiday for next winter and Sharm is an option. If they do go all islamic then the only people they will help are the resorts on the Israeli side.

The Egyptians wasn't all that impressed either, you made a shocking job of that Sphinx. :0)
I wouldn`t go to Sharm anyway. I went there years ago when there was nothing there except diving schools. It`s like Benidorm now. If the Egyptians want to get all strict about things it`s their loss. There are plenty of other places in the world to go.
You'd think they'd be desperately trying to get the tourists to go there, not scare them away!

All these points would definitely put me off going there. I would never go to Sharm, bit too commercial for my liking. I wouldn't mind seeing the sights, though.
AOG

I remember being in Sharm one March snorkelling in the warm Red Sea amongst beautiful coral and the large brightly coloured fishes. Then a pithy retort to an AOG question on AB occurred to me and I had to rush to the beach to post on AB from my iPod Touch. Looney or what?
I know Egypt well. If they want to destroy their busy tourist industry, that's a good way of doing it.
i don't know about looney gromit, but summink aint right.
Nope

Mind you I've spent 2 weeks in Utah!

Besides this is a bit jumping the gun

Firstly - this is the opinion of one party member - not even official policy
Secondly the military haven't even given up power yet much less the MB won the elections.

Typical Daily Mail Look-at-all-the-scary-muslims story!
I spent a couple of weeks touring Iran a few years ago. No alcohol there either. I coped fine. I didn't go swimming, though, so no chance of me harming their youth.
Not much encouragement there if they want their tourist trade to grow. Perhaps they don't want visitors and this is their way of telling us.
Yep...puts me off

But i respect their beliefs and values therefore wouldnt go and drink and wear bikinis!!

When on holiday...i drink...alot....and wear...little x
some hardliners don't want tourists unless they dress modestly. But then some Brits moan about tourists too. Most Egyptians want them, because they bring in a lot of money.
