I know that the best things in life are free but we should all be willing to pay for a bonfire night. That is how they raise the funds for it. I have got one free event here in Shropshire at Donnington but we all have to pay for parking. Maybe they can not afford the cost of a match?
The way the weather's going, I doubt any would light anyway.

If the idea is for a council to urge people to go to council run events and the concil then don't put them on, then I reckon the Fire Service could be busy attending lots of 'little' fires.
Wow!..First Wordsley Scouts!
I was in them :-)
Don't know why it should bother the Wordsley scouts though, theres a big bonfire a mile away at Stourbridge F C and a huge one at Himley 3 miles away...
Wordsley is where I live and it's 13 miles from Birmingham..Those Brummies are more than welcome to come and enjoy our Black Country bonfires :-)
Providing they only go "shopping" when the shops are open ;-)

Ha, wondered if someone was going to pick me up about my geographical faux pas and they have!

I use this subject often with a girl in work from the Black Country as banter. She often points out that she is from Tipton but I wind her up by telling her that everyone refers to her as 'the gird with the Brummie accent'! I tell her that everyone generalises when they hear the accent.....
People will have to go back to having their own bonfires then. There's nothing like tomato soup, hot dogs and picking jacket potatoes out the fire with a stick!

I even tell my sister she is now a naturalised Brummie. She lives in Kings Norton.

Yep, just down the road from Edgbaston, which will come in handy when I want to stay over for the cricket!
More often Insurance Costs than H&C

A big event down here will be without bonfire this year because an incident two years ago resulted in a big claim and this year's premiums are 'prohibitive'.

Mind you, I expect Lewes nearby will continue to 'burn the Pope' with great enthusiasm!
