Following on from the PMs message last night, Boris will be revealing more in-depth clarity on the 'Stay Alert' road map and plans today.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52612449

Have the British been too quick to criticise Boris and the Gov. on this?

With his message, is he putting too much trust in the public to maintain social distancing whilst going back to work and seeing friends and family? Do we all interpret information/guidelines differently?

If this has all been covered in the 'Oh Dear Boris' thread, please delete.

Boris's address last night was the ultimate in muddled thinking - you'd almost think he was doing his utmost to confuse the British public.
Morning Tiggs,I look forward to hearing Boris’s address to the nation being discussed in Parliament today
I understood every word he said. I think people are choosing to misunderstand and it doesn't help when expressions such as "people who can't work from home should be ENCOURAGED to go back to work" are reported as "You MUST go back to work" by some newspapers.
''Easing The Lockdown,'' by B. Johnson, a simple guide and all you need to know in two hundred pages.
I agree that some people are looking to find misunderstandings or ambiguities.
This was an outline as the detailed document has to be discussed by Parliament today.
Regarding ""people who can't work from home should be ENCOURAGED to go back to work", I took this to be a message to employers to find ways of making it possible to get some staff back. rather than an instruction for employees to turn up today. If you work in a pub or in a leisure centre or as a supply teacher for example why on earth would you wonder whether to turn up today. Maybe Boris should have made that clearer though by saying 'later this week ' or 'over the next few weeks '

Morning Bobbs and all :o)

Boris did say that further clarity will be delivered.
There’s no point in people returning to work if there’s no market for whatever it is they produce.
I hope the toilet roll industry is in full swing :-)

(And the vapour juice and vape accessory shops.)

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think the government has been forced into this by the MSM and public jumping up and down.
As a performance in wishful thinking it was excellent.
As a practical guide to restarting the economy, it was woeful.

The economy is not a tap or switch you can turn on and off and get an instant response. Footfall on our high streets and retail parks is down over 80%, the customers are staying away. There was nothing in Johnson’s speech to encourage them back. Non essential shopping is a leisure experience. People will go and buy what they desire with their friends and go to a cafe, eatery or pub. While those establishments are shut, the shopping experience is broken and it will be a very long time before customers return.
Gromit - what would you suggest, then?
Diddly, the only one confused is you.
90% of Public transport wilL not be available according to the Transport Secretary. So even if the shops re-open, the customers won’t be able to get to them.
I think he's doing his best, but people have been sitting in my local park, both on grass and benches, for weeks and people have been chatting to each other when walking dogs, even me, and not always two metres apart, you sometimes don't realise you are not doing it. I've also seen loads of cars on the roads and often wondered where they are going. People will always go a step further and this time won't be any different. I would hate to be in Boris's shoes.

Why are you asking me ?
If anyone was confused by his message I can only assume they weren't paying attention. It was clear enough to me.
I also agree with 8.36.
Gromit - you said Boris's guide to restarting the economy was woeful. I was asking how you would restart it.
I think I'm nearly there.

It is okay encouraging people to go back to work. But in many cases people have wanted to continue working but their employers have decided to shut down their operation. The message was more to employers saying make preparations for their employees to return. Except Boris didn't say that was what he meant.
