whats the betting the ordinary working person is going to get hammered in the budget [AGAIN] it looks like public services are going to be tightened or in some cases axed.what are we paying our taxes for?it seems its not worth working for a living and trying to better your lifestyle you only get penalised by the government.....does anyone feel like quiting work and joining the freeloading society?

The reason that Brown has got away with it so long is because he does not hammer the ordinary working person. He tends to go for the more affluent and then usually with a stealth tax. The people who end up paying more don't notice until it is too late, and they can usually affiord to pay more so absorb the extra tax. They will put up a bit of a moan, but Brown will get away with it.
For example, rumour is, that he will hammer the Gas Guzzlers with a hefty Green Tax.

As for joining the freeloading society, I think I would get very bored very quickly, but I can see some people who idea of bliss would be spending all day in the pub.
i would think,as a election is not that far away,he will be a little gentle this time, and then if labour win again, its then he will be ruthless
According to the calculator my family is going to be 140 per year better off due to the budget.

If I didn't drive a 3 litre car it would have been better, but ho hum.

I still don't wish to join the 'freeloading society'. I have my pride, I work for a living and pay my dues. That is still worthwhile in my book.

i agree pippa68 id much rather work as well buit it makes my blood boil when i have to pay 90 a month on council tax pay for prescriptions and dental treatment my wife and i dont recieve tax credits or family allowance ive never been unemployed but if i ever needed to claim anything i would be given the third degree the working people of this country are being penalised to support the idle people and the ever growing number of asylum seekers.
I do agrewith you stokeace.

A few years back Mr P was laid off. No redundancy pay or settlement. For 8 weeks we had nothing (I think we were given about 150 towards our rent).

Considering both of us have worked since we were 16 years old it was a huge slap around the face. Surely if you have worked that long and paid into the system you deserve a little more help than that? I see people sitting on their arses watching their plasma TVs, cannot be arsed to work and they get it all.

It upsets me greatly.
*agree with*..lol
So specifically what part of the budget is "hammering the ordinary working person" Stokeace?

You've posted a rather sweeping statement, not backed it up with any specifics and now gone off on a tangent about council tax and prescription charges!

It looks like if you're on a low income you'll be hit by a couple of pounds a week which I agree ought to have been fixed - but it's hardly a hammering!

Oh sorry Stokeace I just saw the date on your post.

I didn't realise you were venting your anger about the budget before it was announced!

Remember this government brought in the minimum wage to protect ordinary working people in the face of violent opposition from the Tories who gave us all dire predictions of all the businesses that would fold and the unemployment it would produce.

Of couse you could trust the future of ordinary working people to all the Eton old-boys littering the shadow cabinet but somehow I don't think that's their main concern

its ok jakethepeg im just sick and tired of paying out my hard earned cash on council tax, income tax, road tax every 12 months and whatever else they decide to tax us on and as pippa68 has illustrated when the working people of this country need help if we fall ill or have an accident its like trying to get blood out of a stone for help off a system we have paid in for all our lives yet we have people coming into this country and milking the system for all its worth.no wonder the true british working person has to battle for any help when they need it.
