To ladybirder 10.27. I was saying, if you struggle with a mask, wear a face shield. I have severe chronic asthma and am classed as having COPD. I have no problems breathing when I wear my face shield.
If I couldn’t wear a mask at all, I wouldn’t have my hair cut or go to the opticians.
how is your hairdresser open? ours is closed for the forceeable future.
Margaret //Having COPD does not mean you can’t wear a face shield.//
That depends at what stage of COPD you are.If it is already difficult to breathe then wearing a mask definitely makes it a lot worse.
i don't know what stage waterboatman is at, but he has an exemption ceetificate.
I meant go to the hair dresser when they are open of course. A face shield is not a mask, that is why many places say face coverings to allow for this fact. Quite a lot of older people wear them shopping where I live and many shop workers and health care workers. I agree that masks are awful when you have breathing problems. What I am saying is that face shields do not restrict your breathing in the same way.
face shields those plastic face coverings that staff in hospitals wear, not sure boaty wears on of those either.
Yes Emmie. Not only are they quite acceptable everywhere, but they do give you some protection from the virus as well. Which is why health workers wear a shield and a mask. Obviously you can’t wear one when having your hair done or your eyes tested for purely practical reasons.
I have extremely severe COPD plus I had a chunk of my right lung removed when I had my lung cancer op at Guy's hospital. My Surgeon told me by breathing would be worse than before I had the op, he was right. My oxygen levels are often very low. I am not defending myself any longer on this thread to someone who seems to think they know my health better than I do.
I'm off to take the mutt out now.
LB, you have my good wishes as always, take care now
Ban bike riding, its not really within the spirit of the law. Bike riding is putting yourself at risk of being injured and requiring hospital treatment. :0)
margarettom. I'd say Ladybirder is rather more au fait with her health issues than you are .... wouldn't you?
Compulsory vaccination and a ban on incoming travel until further notice would surely help?
friends go out of their bicycles for exercise, surely that's allowed?
emmie, central London on a bike, ha ha shows how dumb he really is.
There are lots of parks in central London teacake.
^^ And lots of busy roads to get to them, stop trying to defend a dumb, when the rest of us are told not to take risks of any kind.
Our local hairdresser is a neighbour shes had to shut.
I was not suggesting ladybirder should wear a mask. I understand her problems only too well. But she says she worries when she is out, and I thought she could try a face shield, as they afford some protection from the virus, unlike a mask.
Please accept my apologies ladybirder.
Your just looking to have a go at Borris. Isnt he allowed to exercise. Should he jog up and down Downing Street 50 times or down Oxford Steet bumping into pedestrians. Should he drive to a park and cycle/jog there?
I feel many people want to just ban and curtail the things that don't affect them anyway. Not picking on you teacake but the chances of catching it on a bike ride in the countryside must be virtually nil. also this obsession with masks as though they were incredibly effective when all experts admit they have minimal impact.
What really needs to be done is proper analysis of all the 1000s going down with at the moment of where they actually thought they caught it - and I'd wager the majority were not walking in the countryside, sitting on benches or down the pub. I heard an expert say the other day that a very large proportion of infections were caught in the home from others.
