A while ago I saw a short documentary about customised cars in Japan. People would meet up at a Car Park out of town and show off their customised cars and listened to ( of all things ) Eurobeat Music! The most impressive cars didnt just have Sound Systems but LCD Screens, Lava Lamps and all sorts in the Boots. I would like to know if there are any English language websites on the Japanese scene ? Any pointers would be appreciated.

They have things in the UK called "cruises" some legal, but most illegal. It's not just japanese cars, but european ones, etc too. Most of the people are young and drive souped up small hatchbacks and a lot have spent thousands 's on modifications to the engine, uprated shock absorbers, car stereos (cd players, etc) and massive amplifiers and speakers. A lot of them have undercar neon lighting, etc. They meet in carparks or in a street and sometimes have illegal races, etc.

The above website has a list of custom car shows/meets and cruises from all over the world, it appears.

The Woodward Dream Cruise (part of which passes right by my street, so I get to see it every year) attracts custom cars of all types from around the country...from restored classics to tricked out custom models with massive sound systems, light shows, and other bizarre accessories.

We have meets every now and again. There's a big one every month up in the Newcastle/Gateshead area.

Check out http://www.sxoc.com/ and http://www.mkivsupra.com/ and go to the forums for some meets
