There is a pitch-shifted sample at the beginning that says:
"always lived my life alone, been searching for a place called home, I know that I've been cold as ice, ignored the dreams too many lies...".

I've searched high and low for the source of these lyrics as I find the words/melody really haunting (especially if slowed down to their natural pitch).
I am beginning to wonder if the melody/words were 'custom made' by Nessaja specially for the song.
Can anyone enlighten me?
(The rest of the song sucks IMO -and they've nicked the second intro from 'Baker Street'!)

The melody is from the 1983 single "Nessaja", the final track of the album "Tabaluga oder die Reise zur Vernunft" (Tabaluga or the Journey to Reason). It was the first concept album by Peter Maffay based on his string of fairy tales about a little green dragon named Tabaluga. In the tales Nessaja is an old turtle Tabaluga encounters on the journey.

Translation into English of the original German lyrics by Rolf Zuckowski does not match those of the Scooter cover although the sentiment is somewhat similar, e.g.

"I never wanted to be grown,
I've always been on the defensive.
From the outside, I was hard as a rock
And yet it has hurt me many times."
