You wouldn't be thinking of "You're In A Bad Way" by Saint Etienne would you? Though to be honest, it's only the intro that sounds a bit like Telstar, and then only on the single version (the LP version has a different intro).

There was a vocal version of Telstar produced by Joe Meek (who did the original, too, of course) and sung � very badly � by the remarkably named Kenny Hollywood (one of Joe's 'special friends', one assumes).

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the Kenny Hollywood version is called Magic Star.
