Help to settle a dispute, please.

I say that the song by Robbie Williams "Me and My Monkey" is him singing about his alter ego and what he was like during the height of his sex, drugs and rock n roll era, however, my mate seems to think it's just a song about taking a monkey to vegas.

What is your take on the song? Do you have an alternative theory??

Yeah he's singing about his alter ego during his drug days, monkey is a word for a drug.
