When buying CD's on via the web I am sure I have previously found a web site like hmv, virgin or otherwise which allows you to listen to say the first 30 seconds of the first few tracks on an album. I can't find this service anymore. Has it been wiothdrawn or am I looking in the wrong place? [erhaps there is an equivalent of napster which I never really got into but I know is now closed?

You can sample tracks on the Hmv site but I know it has been recently changed. If you are in a store though, they will put the cd on for you to listen to. Most stores have personal listening posts so customers can try b4 they buy!
Sometimes you can do it on Amazon. Napster is gone, but there are plenty of alternatives...
