Steve Race

People of my (older) generation will recall the name, and music, of Steve Race. His familiar tune, Nicola, was named for his daughter.

My surfing has revealed he was born on April 1st 1921, but is he still alive - and still living in Bucks?

He was certainly still alive last April because his birthday was noted in The Times - and I think I would have noticed an obituary.

I don't know where he lives. In any case he has been living fairly quietly for some years.

That's a blast from the past 0801. Steve Race used to be on Face the Music and similar programmes, am i right?

"face the music" was chaired by joseph cooper, but i believe steve race was a regular guest, along with the likes of robin ray, richard baker and bernard levin.
(the classic round from that show was the dummy keyboard.....)

steve race compered the radio show "my music", with ian wallace & dennis norden and frank muir & john amis.

That's bringing back some memories of afternoon TV in the 1970's. I seem to recall he had a music quiz where he played something on the piano and his guests had to name (or sing) the tune or am I getting confused with 'Name That Tune' with Tom O'Connor?
