Johnny Marr from the Smiths was in Electronic with Bernard Sumner from Joy Division and New Order.

Morrissey was in a band with Billy Duffy of the Cult, but that's about it.
In 1976, the Sex Pistols played a legendary gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester, organised by members of the *********. Many people claim to have been there; amongst those believed to have been are: Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, who would go on to form Joy Division, Tony Wilson (who would go on to found Factory Records), and Morrissey - who would go on to be Morrissey.
Joy Division had long ceased to exist and New order were well in their prime before young Morrisey came on the scene.
The only connections are perhaps the one The Big Gill mentions which is, at best, tenious and the fact they happened to be based in Manchester in the early 80's.
Just because neither New order or Morrisey appeared on each others records does not mean they hated each other and at the same time there is no evidence that they would all go the pictures together on a regular Tuesday night and go back to each others houses for a chippy tea.

I'm sure there was a mutual respect but New order were doing their thing and The Smiths were doing their thing.

No great love but no great hate either and Morrissey NEVER, i repeat never, appeared on any New order records.
