Oops

This is what I meant to say.

People on this (and many other boards) seem to be of the opinion its OK to download songs on limewire , and other peer to peer things without paying . I'm OK if this is try before you buy, but I suspect with most folk its not.

Would you walk into HMV / Virgin / your local record shop , pick up a couple of CDs and walk out without paying . I think not.

What you are doing IS Stealing and at some point someone will end up with a hefty fine and they maybe dont realise what they're doing, because people say "Just download it from Limewire" or whatever.

IT IS STILL Stealing.

Would it be OK fror someone to nick your iPod / wallet because they could?

Having said that The record companiesforced CDs and DRM on us thus paving the way for peer to peer. They try to rip people off , and the beast they've created has returned to bite 'em on the bum big time!!!

I've litlle sympathy with itunes charging a quid (near as damn it) for a DRM track that is a lot worse quality than CDs.

Theres plenty of free stuff about . Amazon.com have a huge free download catalog.

I suggest you buy the CD or at least think when downloading from limewire that you're committing robbery!!

Rant over
because it free and its also easy to get away with. In the history of music, earning money from performing is a fairly new idea. I'm sure, given the lifestyles of most people involved in the music industry which is rammed down our throats every time we turn the tv on that most people who download the odd track now and then dont feel like they're stealing from a charity tin.

~~~~~~~
I would.... you can get away with anything in a busy store with enough confidence
If new CD's were a more realictic price, I wouldn't have had to download the 34,000 mp3's on mt PC.
Look at all the 'artists' today, living in poverty because their music is shared on a P2P.
There's enough 'mugs' out there that still buy music to keep those 'artists' in bling for a lifetime.
I'd walk off with the cash register if they werent watching.
so whats ur stance on sending albums to mates via msn? cos me and a mate just finished a session where we both sent and recieved bout 20 albums..... yet they were all originals....
and lmfao at cash register =p
Naz booldawg and hero I agree with you 100%. Sick to death of being told downloading is some major crime that we should be publicly flogged for . Christ almighty we've paedos about, young dads being shot dead on their doorstep and suicide bummers threatning our every move yet you've people coming on here giving others a hard time for downloading music and not lining the rich's pockets even further.
Mikeydred if you really must get on your high horse, there's FAR more worthy causes for you to get annoyed and rant about. Find one of them, and leave people be who just wanna add to their music collection without taking out a mortgage to do it.
*cheers.... and runs to limewire to find some music similar to the band in his other thread on music*
As I say I've got no problem with "try before you buy" and think that most record companies are grabbing gits.
However you can buty a new album for 7.99. In 1975 a new album was about 3.25 , so a tenner an album is a fairish price, however a tenner for a downloaded album aint a fairish price (no media , DRM , no package)
I've got this bit on me own message board for genuine free stuff:
http://www.songofthesalesman.co.uk/toast/toast .asp?sub=show&action=topics&fid=6
I just think that unless the artists are giving it away , then its only right that they get some remuneration.
However I'm dead hypocritical as I do take commission from iTunes on me site, bur hate DRM.
For those who dont know DRM is digital rights management , which means you can only listen to music on a single player or whatever. The ultimate aime of this is that the listener will pay every time they listen to a track!!!! Which is right out of order.
So buy the cD or support non DRM sites like Emusic.
While P2P is stealing , I do think record companies are just as bad.
also, what about program downloads... the licences for those exceed the price of 5 top albums.... and yet this happens just as much, naturally im a culprit.... although i wil admit my windows is genuine =p
downloading free music IS stealing. it the same as going into to music store and taking a cd with out paying. For those who steal music (download for free) how would you like it if you just all your hard work and money into recording an album and not getting paid for it. wouldnt like it would you!!!!. pay for the music you listen to!!!!...
it's ok to steal from big faceless corporations.
And I would, and have been known to, walk into HMV etc and walk out without paying for things.
we've been throughthis and already established id take a few cd's, and the cash register (thanks for the inspiration :P) as long as nobodywas aware :P
and why do they record it and then put their crappy lil band onto myspace? where u can download from them, FREE! theyre hipocrits if they complain bout it, cos theyre giving it away free... and for those music addicts like myself, giving a demo and then allowing limewire to work is like letting a crack addict smoke a joint and tell him the weed factory is a block away and entrance is free for this lifetime only!
Christ almighty we've paedos about, young dads being shot dead on their doorstep and suicide bummers threatning our every move
LMFAO! suicide BUMMERS!! lmfao!!! they rape you and explode all over the pavement?
Random hero lol ;-)
I think what they're missing is the fact that TIMES ARE CHANGING.
We do not live in the 70s any more, and the internet and P2P sharing has has actually helped create the careers of some of this day and age's top artists (Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen etc etc)
I'm sure if you asked one of these bands/artists what they think of their music being swapped on the web, I'm sure they'd tell you its played a massive part in getting them where they are so they're all for it.
It tends to be only the record company fatcats, and the long established artists (your eltons, your U2s) that make a song and dance about this, simply because they have seen a drop in the number of zero's on their already huge salaries. They still make a fortune so wheres the harm?
If people want to "steal" music as some people here damningly put it, then its not really any of business is it. Do you prowl your local supermarket looking for shoplifters? I doubt you do, so why prowl forums ramming your over-dramatic nonsense down everyones throat? So long as you carry on being holier than thou your conscience is clear. Now please find a better moral crusade to waste your time on. I've got downloading to do so I'm off :-)
Ya like that phrase Hero? lol...... it's just a little term I like to give these losers who murder innocents in the name of God, another thing I could rant about but I guess thats for another thread!
lol 0WN3D!
and i have to agree, arctic monkeys topped DL charts in their first week without one single sale.... and now look where they are..... and plus if the goverment had a problem with it they would disable limewires engines.... but they havent, and you know why? its cos they have bigger fish to fry, like the suicide bummers and their anal exploits.... downloading isnt a bad thing, otherwise it wouldbt be there. END
To all of the preachers. Take a look at this and tell me us downloaders are really as bad as you make us out to be:
"Try before you buy"...
I'm soo sorry love to burst your bubble...but nobody I know, will download a FREE tune off Limewire just to listen to it, then delete it, then decide to go to HMV and buy it! That's just pure madness and pathetic in my eyes!
