'one two three what are we fighting for' is Country Joe & The Fish - it's called "Fixing-to-Die Rag" but is better known as The Fish Cheer. Over to Joe himself: http://www.countryjoe.com/rag.htm and http://www.countryjoe.com/cheer.htm

This time round? Take your pick: George Michael released one nobody bought on aetshetic rather than political grounds. Madonna's new single is apparantly accompanied by an anti-war video (I think?). Where's Ms Dynamite when you need her?
My choice, which seems appropriate when the opposing sides are from different religions is "With God on Our Side" and my favourite version is by the Neville Brothers. Generally speaking though isn't music best as a bit of a welcome distraction from current events?

Thanks for Country joe info mikewith. I guess George's song is that 'dog' title- 'shoot the dog'? I would nominate 'War Pigs' by Ozzy. Anyway Woodpam, sorry if I hijacked the music cat-agree. Just trying to accept that this damn thing may go on for a long while, this media circus freakshow. hmm. '' '
no xyzzy, George's recent song was a cover of Don McLean's 'The Grave'. 'Shoot the Dog' was released last year and was more generally anti-Bush/Blair rather than anti this war or any other particular war. Oh, and the best song about war ever written is 'Shipbuilding' by Elvis Costello.
Off on a tangent - reading about the Neville Brothers and then 'Shipbuilding' has really cheered me up. Some of my all-time favourite music and memories wrapped up in them. Thanks!
Aaron Neville singing "With God On Our Side" has to be one of the beautiful and emotive songs ever recorded. It's a Dylan song isn't it? Thanks woodpam, for the reminder - I can't buy it - makes me cry too much!

Hard Rain's Gonna Fall gets me emotional, also by Bob Dylan.
How could you forget that classic 'The War Song' by Culture Club!
