Who would you say are the greatest rock bass players, now or past? Chris Squire of Yes is a particular favourite of mine but who else should I be listening to?

Flea from the Chili Peppers is rather good!!!

Les Claypool from the wonderfully odd Primus!
John Entwistle of The Who, John Deacon of Queen, Simon Gallup of Cure, Olli of Rammstein, Alonzo Bevan from Kula Shaker - all greats.
no doubt who i think Jack Bruce when he was with Cream !!!

Flea is by far the best bassist of the last 10 years or so.

In my humble opinion anyway...

what about bruce foxton from the jam, last i heard he was with stiff little fingers

Geddy Lee - Rush

Peter

Geddy Lee - Rush

Peter Hook - New Order

Three spring to mind straight away for me................. Jack Bruce, John McVie and Mark King
wot about paul mcartney
In the Jazz-Rock genre, try Stanley Clarke and the late Jaco Pastorius
Mark King from Level 42 was always considered a great bassist in the eighties.

Thanks Everyone. I've got some Stanley Clarke already but I'd forgotten all about Mark King! The Jam, RHCP and Cream are all in my CD rack too. I shall definitely follow up some of the others mentioned.
