Eurovision Public Voting
Please can someone explain again how the Eurovision public voting works. How are votes from potentially millions of people whittled down to a score in the hundreds (or less in some cases!?!)
Answers
Folk in each participating country vote for their favourite song.
The one receiving the most votes in a country is awarded twelve votes, second gets ten votes and the ones in third to tenth are awarded eight to one point.
The same method is used to allocate points from votes in the rest of the world as a whole.
each country casts several votes that are worth a certain amount of points ranging from 12 to 1. the votes are apportioned according to their popularity.
so the song which receives the most votes in the uk will get the uk public's 12 points... the second most popular will get their 10 etc.
these are added up across all countries for a final total of public votes for each song.
the voting is very often politically motivated yes. but i think this year some good songs did place quite high regardless. i liked the italian entry and the estonian one which were both top 5 and i thought the winner was deserving. i also liked ukraine's entry which was 9th. the british one was good but unfortunately didn't do very well.
