Please can someone explain again how the Eurovision public voting works.  How are votes from potentially millions of people whittled down to a score in the hundreds (or less in some cases!?!)

Folk in each participating country vote for their favourite song. The one receiving the most votes in a country is awarded twelve votes, second gets ten votes and the ones in third to tenth are awarded eight to one point. The same method is used to allocate points from votes in the rest of the world as a whole.

i don't know prudie but i find it rather odd that in the last couple of years israel has had an absolutely colossal boom in audience votes despite entering some mediocre songs. given the kinds of people who actually watch eurovision it's very strange indeed.

20:40 we'll never win again no matter how good the song is. We left their ponzi scheme, they didn't like us when were in it let alone now.

This stopped being a song contest and became a political battleground way back in the last century.  A great shame because in the days of Katie Boyle it was wonderful entertainment.

Shows how out of touch I am with it.

Had no idea they'd changed to include a public vote aspect.

i don't think that's true toratoratora... the uk came second in 2022.

Thank you for all the answers.  I can see my question prompted some interesting dialogue.  So, in theory, if 39 countries' favourite song was the same,  that song would get 39 x 12 points?  468 points?  I think I can now understand how the votes get into the hundreds sometimes
