A fashion, possibly but I’d say 50,000 sales is more than a whim.

Morning zacs, retro is the 'In' word isn't it, nostalgia sells to a degree. It can't compete for sales in other formats in the long run. I wouldnt, would you zacs?
I still have my Sony Walkman, if anyone would like to buy it. :-)
Pssst.....I don’t think they’re aimed at people of our vintage ;-)

LOL zacs, very true!
I still listen to my old cassette tapes on my old cassette/CD player. Don't think the new releases would be quite my cup of tea though!
Cassettes were relatively cheap, cheerful, handy; I loads, mostly self recorded, that I no longer get around to playing. Not bought any for years and surprised there's been an upsurge, but as a format they should still be handy.
I HAVE loads......
That's interesting, only this week while clearing out I came across 6 cassettes of me being recorded doing NVQ assessments about 20 years ago and realised I had no way to listen to them anymore.
I still have a cassette player and sometimes listen to my tapes. In a way they're better than CDs because if you have to stop listening you can pick up where you left off. I still have videos but my player has seen better days. Perhaps they'll return too!

Don't all CD players have a pause button?
My man has both record decks and one of those enormous 1980's (apparently really collectable) ghetto blasters that play tapes, I think a fair few people do actually.

I still possess a tape recorder (part of my vintage Technics hi-fi) bought when I was a teenager. (ten to fifteen years ago)

Never play a cassette though but put a blank one in it because it acts as an amplifier if you press play and record together.
50,000 sounds a lot until you see they peaked in 1989 at 83,000,000.

0.06% is hardly anything to get excited about.
It's a fad, and may gain a little traction through the need for some to be 'retro hip' - but as a serious music medium, its day has long gone.
I used to keep a pen or pencil handy to shove the petulant free-roaming tape back into its housing.

Not forgetting the completely illegal practice of pressing record to tape the top 20 via dial-a -disc

oh, happy days....
Prudie you can get them transferred onto CDs. If you can't do it yourself there's a place in Swanage does it.

Dial-A-Disc - wow, there's a blast from the past!!!

It used to be voiced by Mitch Murray, a guy who knows a thing or two about pop music -
