Prompted by Togo's post about Elliot Randall, I've been thinking about my favourite guitar solos. Off the top of my head:

Jeff Baxter on 'My Old School' by Steely Dan
Larry Carlton on 'Kid Charlemagne' by Steely Dan
Amos Garrett on 'Midnight at the Oasis' by Maria Muldaur

Eric Clapton's 'Tears In Heaven' has reduced me to a sobbing wreck in times gone by.
Hotel california,
purple rain,
lots of Oasis ones
Gary Moore's Parisian Walkways
Layla
The George Harrison one
Steve Lukather's solo on Lionel's Running With The Night deserves a mention I think. :-)
Steve Hackett (Genesis) - Fly On A Windshield
Steve Hackett (Genesis) - Blood on the Rooftops
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Shine On You Cray Diamond
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Comfortably Numb
Martin Barre (Jethro Tull) - We Used to Know
This is one of my favourites.

I wish I'd remembered to include Comfortably Numb.
It's always hard to reel them off from memory (oh yes- Reeling in the Years and Ricky Don't Lose that number)
Eddie van Halen on Micheal Jackson’s Beat it.
Gilmour's solo in Mother from the same album is also excellent.
Mark Knopfler - Telegraph Road
I agree with Mark Knopfler! Brilliant guitarist.
This is a belter:
Civil War, Slash. Floods and The Sleep, both Pantera, played by Dimebag Daryl, and anytime Herman Li picks up a guitar :)
Marquee Moon - Television - starts quite gently at about 4:30 and goes on for quite a while getting more and more intense ...

Forgot what is probably my favoutite- Go Your Own Way (and maybe Rhiannon) by Fleetwood mac
The guitar in Whiskey in the jar by Thin Lizzy is amazing. Not sure it's a solo though, more of a riff maybe

B B King was brilliant but a good few years ago
Andy Fairweather Low can play a bit too.
Yep- I have the fantastic Televison 12 inch somewhere + the follow up (was it Prove it?).
There was a good solo in Anarchy in the UK and on some other Pistols stuff.
Motorbiking by Chris Spedding
Time to get some old singles/albumstracks out tomorrow.
