Why The Hostility Towards Believers?

Scientists who follow the evidence, and conclude that evolution and abiogenesis, and even the origin of the universe, required an intelligent designer, run the risk of losing their research funding, or even their jobs.
The prevailing attitude amongst the purse holders, is that only a materialistic view in science will be tolerated, regardless of the evidence.
Sadly it is the groups that shout loudest and remain in favour with the universities, who mould public opinion, and so the truth struggles to find a voice.
Do not fall for it. Think for yourself and read the bible for yourself. Check out Christian apologists, such as Chuck Missler on YouTube and give the evidence a fair hearing.
It is your future that is at stake.

//Why The Hostility Towards Believers?//

I have no hostility towards believers.

I don't appreciate them knocking on my door trying to convert me.

That includes a Cyber door
Quite.
I was going to say the same thing.
I am Catholic..not a very good one...and I have my own simple Christian maxims in life..be kind..and treat others as you would wish to be treated...doesn't matter what badge you wear...but I wouldn't dream of even trying to enforce my beliefs onto others.. you would do better to quietly follow your own way through life Theland and respect the fact that others do not share your, rather extreme at times, notions...
Very well put minty.
Yep, well said, all respondents so far.
I can't be bothered to read the whole bible, but my son has. He will happily debate with anyone about religion, and always comes away on top.
Nobody should ever face hostility for their beliefs.
What does annoy me is those of certain faiths that pick and choose parts that they will follow or twist what they read in the books they follow.
Or claim they do things that are just obviously not true.
The bible is really really boring. I mean super duper boring.

I tried to read it but the writing is too small so I got one of those kids versions which actually made it sound even more like a fairy story.

Why so many rainbows in the sky?
The hostility is more likely in the head of the believers.

Most people don't care that 'you' have found religion and your beliefs simply don't register as needing any of their time.

Bang on the door, literal or metaphorical, and you are perhaps more likely to get a mouth full of abuse of some sort.

Answer is don't bang on the door. There is enough literature and information about all the respective religions (especially so here in the west) to not need door knocking.
ummm //The bible is really really boring. I mean super duper boring.//

I think that assertion says rather more about you than it does the bible.
I once had some JWs knock on my door. As I have really bad arthritis, I struggle to get to the door and this is obvious when I open it! As soon as I opened the door I knew who they were and said 'if it's anything to do with religion I'm not interested'. Seeing my distress, they asked if they could do anything to help and I replied 'yes, stop knocking on my door'. They have never been back!
I’ll be slightly more blunt than ozzy1 and minty:

Because, Theland, you and your ilk try to force your unfounded and unwanted beliefs on us.

Go away and believe in what you believe in quietly and I’m sure you’ll experience far less hostility.
bless you my child ! ^^ ;0)
I have never heard of a scientist who says there was an intelligent designer . Can you supply a link and NOT one to the Bible !
I would suggest that more aggression emanates from Believers such as yourself who appear to be hostile towards Non-Believers.

"Scientists who follow the evidence, and conclude that evolution and abiogenesis, and even the origin of the universe, required an intelligent designer, run the risk of losing their research funding, or even their jobs."

Hardly surprising is it. Coming to the conclusion that a designer is necessary when time and again it proves not so, does mean that the scientific community, and those funding research are inevitably going to question that individual's reasoning ability, and opt to employ someone more grounded rather than take risks.
Why has there been evolution? Why did the "intelligent designer" not create humans and every other living thing as we and they are to-day, from the beginning?
One's faith in spiritual matters ought not encroach on their practical endevours.
Corby //Why did the "intelligent designer" not create humans and every other living thing as we and they are to-day, from the beginning? //

Perhaps God's lazy, why go to all that trouble when all you need do is start the prime movement and let what we call 'evolution' run it's course.
btw, it's not finished yet.
