Just seen a documentary on Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds. Never really come across the album before. Just how good is it? Where does it stand in an all-time list? Is it worth buying?

where have you been? very - top 10 - yes, definitely are the answers you are looking for
Yes. Buy it. Great album and reached #10 in the UK album charts and something like #2 in the US. Get it now. Everyone else has!! :-)
Only a fool would pass by the album and not buy a copy (unless you already have it!!!) Its great definite top 10, Revolver and Abbey Road by the beatles are slightly better though!!
it's a work of genius - a must buy
couldn't agree more. a simply fantastic album.
Go out and buy it *now* for heaven's sake... what a treat you have in store!! If the documentary has prompted you to listen to Pet Sounds all well and good though, as a fan of long-standing* I thought it was a real disappointment. Terribly edited and written (Mr Lamar you should be ashamed) and while some of the footage was excellent much was completely out of place.

Fan of long-standing? Well, I have the four-CD boxset of Pet Sounds - original/ setero re-mix and two CDs of out-takes and studio sessions. Saw Brian three times this year (but refuse to be conned by shelling out 60 this time round) and even painted the Surf's Up album cover on my bag at school, despite merciless ribbing!!

Sorry I waffled, but I *love* Pet Sounds so much!!
