is IS happening apparently.

30 years since the original, a third incarnation of Do They Know It's Christmas is to be released, this time funds will be donated to help fight the ebola virus.

Can it hope to eclipse the original? Or will it be a poor substitute like the 3rd version released in 2004? (lets not talk about the Stock Aitken & Waterman version please!)

According to some, these guys have already been signed up to do it.

Which should ensure it reaches the desired sales figures however we'll have to wait to see if it can proudly stand up against the awesomeness that is the orginal.

BA1 was a spontaneous response by Bob, Midge and a host of well-known names to do something positive in the face of the devastating famine in Ethiopia, etc. Somehow this feels like an opportunity for current popsters to raise their profiles..... I doubt that I'll be buying it, in any case.

The original still gives me goose bumps. I certainly wouldn't buy the single because of One Direction though...

Like you ummmm the original gives me goose bumps, and I never get tired of seeing the video to it either- all those 80's memories!

I have Live Aid on DVD too, and that was a massive feat to pull off and is 13 hours of spectacular viewing :-)
Even the Band Aid 2 effort wasn't a patch on the original

Well technically that was the 3rd version, I know the ST&A was a terrible copy, but it WAS released nonetheless.

I do have a smidgen of love for the 3rd version (2004) as it was number 1 when my youngest was born.

I'm now on a Band Aid/Live Aid Youtube love fest and re- watched this...still makes me smile!

The moment's passed. Leave it alone.

Who me? Or them?
Them. :-)
The original can't be bettered, just that first note gives me goosebumps, it was a very special xmas for me...The only way I'd buy a new version would be if there was a dvd of Clive Owen singing it in the shower....
the orginal was too good, do something else.... & i won't buy anything with one d in it
I remember suffering from morning sickness when Band Aid 1 came out and thinking I did not want to associate the sickness with that song. I now cannot listen to Paul McCartney and the frog song without longing to throw up
The Frog Song has that effect on me.......nothing to do with morning sickness though.

As long as they don't wheel out Boy George for this latest Band Aid song I'll be happy, he was on TV singing Karma Chameleon or Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, I couldn't believe how insipid his voice has become.
I won't buy it because of One Direction being on it, however I bet it sells well in the USA where 1 D are huge at the moment.
Aaaw, Freddie... Bet he was brilliant live.
I'm sure the new version will achieve the desired effect financially but I doubt those of us who were around for the original will feel as moved.
I know most of us don't need reminding but here it is anyway.

For me, nothing could top the original, but today's generation will probably be saying the same about the new one, in years to come.

The link didn't work for me. Who else is lined up apart from One Direction?
I have very fond memories of the original which could never be matched, however when I hear it (Guaranteed no escaping it) I will no doubt start humming to it. No matter who's contributed or how much of a poor cover version they do.
Who else tries to sing along to the original in the voices of Paul Young, Boy George, George Michael, Simon Le Bon and Bono etc?
