I love my music but don't follow this section much due to questions like this : name that tune.

Sadly I'm now in that group. I've always loved one particular instrumental song (see - I can't even quote you lyrics!) which is all organy and psychedelic and quite upbeat.
I'm pretty sure it's not the Small Faces but it sounds like a 60s psychedelic swirly organ type thing. Every now and again, there's a drum fill before it goes all organy again.

It would fit in perfectly in an Austin Powers soundtrack!

If anyone even has any suggestions I'll be very pleased. If you manage to find/name this song I'll be utterly amazed : there's a challenge for you!

Is it Waltzin Black by the Stranglers?
Soul Bossanova by Quincy Jones maybe.
Question Author
It's not the Quincy Jones one - I recognise that as somebody covered that and added words. I think they sung/rapped "My Definition".
Also, the mystery one has got more of a focus on the organ and sounding psychedelic. Very good suggestion though!

The Stranglers... upbeat?? Sorry, 'curiosity' - aside from that being instrumental it couldn't be further from it. That one sounds a bit morbid and downbeat. You could see that one in an Austin Powers film? lol

Bah! The search goes on...

Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs?

Hocus Pocus by Focus?
Careful with that Axe Eugene by Pink Floyd (although not very upbeat!)
Yeh, you're right I realised as soon as I'd answered that you said "upbeat", still I've never seen Austin Powers all the way through, but from what I have seen a bit of Stranglers could only enhance it.
I thought perhaps Booker T, too.  But Time is Tight rather than Green Onions.
..could be "organ grinder's swing" by Jimmy Smith
Question Author

Not "Time is tight" - that's guitary rather than organy... Hocus Pocus seems the same but does have drum fills (and yodelling!!!!)

Green Onions is a great song - it also has a great organ part so it is very close!

My one is slightly more up-tempo and apart from the prominent organ, there's also the 4 bar drum fills and obviously psychedelic sound.  There wasn't ever a psychedelic cover of that song, mixed in with Soul Bossanova with more drums? haha

I have every Floyd album so not that.

Organ Grinder's Swing?  Not upbeat or psychedelic or with organ.  Ta for trying but that sounds like blues/swing rather than psychedelic.

I REALLY appreciate the suggestions here.  I'm at least having fun listening to some new songs.  Thanks again

I'm going to investigate some more myself after I come back in from my run (see my sponsor my attempts at running 10K) thread...

I know you said 'not the Small Faces', but they did a couple of fantastic instrumental's "Almost Grown" & "E to D", both ' flip sides' (remember them ?) which seem to fit the bill.
Question Author
E to D has lyrics!
Almost Grown is an awful lot closer. The right tempo and mood but where's the drum fills?

Incidentally, the drum fills tend to stop the song completely and then the organ kicks and restarts it : it's not a continuious tempo. You wouldn't dance your way through them - you'd definitely have to stop shaking your hips.
Question Author
Sorry "Grow Your Own" of The Small Faces' is the song I meant. I've yet to hear Almost Grown.

Might it be the theme from Blow Up as performed by the James Taylor Quartet amongst others?

The song is "Almost Grown" by The Small Faces which had the odd sentence in it but no lyrics.
