Onwards and Downwards Continues in March 2014

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Let's have some really new ideas about seasonal produce. Had a look here to find out what we should be eating in UK at this time:

Then found this yummy looking recipe for a chicken caserole:

So what else can you offer us to keep the hunger pangs at bay using seasonal veg?

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Good Morning All, Down 2 lbs again. I can't believe it. This has been going on for ages but it must be the smaller portions. That is over a stone since Christmas. Good luck to the rest of you today and I do know that luck has nothing to do with it!

Thanks Ed!
We can all agree that cooked carrots are very bland, but when a spoonful of cinnamon is added to the water you have a lovely new taste coming to the rescue.
Thanks ed . Yes I can vouch for the carrots with cinnamon brings out the flavour in them .
Forgot to add it was xstitcher that told me about them a couple of years ago .

I have never tried it, will have to have a go.
Good luck everybody for March. Perhaps if the weather improves and we get some of that rare commodity called sun,it might spur us on.
That was a classic typo last thread xstitcher LOL
Tom Kerridge suggested cooking the carrots with a knob of butter in the pan, and a star anise
Got a bag of star anise, just trying to sneak em past MrF.
Butter is a no no for me
I noticed that too , OG ;-).

I keep forgetting to try carrots with cinnamon, thanks for the reminder.
I can't find the typo.......
Good morning all,
I'm down but just a few ounces so I must try harder this week. I shared a slice of cream cake with hubby when we were out for lunch. He made me do it!
I'm looking forward to hearing from the rest of you.
Why did the word cake come out in red in my last post? Is to underline my sin?
Good morning going the right way Xstitcher. cake is something the Ed has highlighted . I am still stuck but might have been up if I had had pancake evening yesterday but that will be tonight due to the kids working commiments yesterday .
cake cake cake no more cake
I also heard boiling carrots with a chicken stock cube in the water adds a bit of flavour too.
Tried it, they were nice.
Don't ask about the c@ke xstitcher, Eds running a competition over on the "eat as much as you like topics" but its not for us!

I have stayed the same this week which is fair enough. I was good on most days but did have a couple of minor naughties here and there.

I love carrots and will definitely try them with cinnamon, thanks for the tip.

My suggestion for seasonal veg, while we still have parsnips and the like, is for lighter roasties. Line a baking tray with foil and spray it with Frylight. Par boil potatoes, drain and pop them on the tray. Add peeled and prepared parsnips and a quartered red onion. Give them all a shake and spray with a little more Frylight. sprinkle over a pinch of rosemary.

Bake in the oven, turn veg once and respray if necessary. It works a treat and is much lighter then traditional roasties.
Thanks for that Maydup as I love parsnips but get led astray with the honey.
Been a surprisingly decent week. 2 weekends ago I went up a chunk, this last weekend I went down. 3⅞ lbs down over the week.
No more c@ke maydup got it! Will do your rosaries this weekend..might add carrots to it. Is there a reason for using foil instead of baking paper?
Good for you going down a chuck OG.
Have any of you ever thought of this scenario (using these names just as an example) Maydup and Wendilla standing beside each other at Tesco's parsnip display and exchanging the time of day with each other, and then going their separate never realizing that they talk to each other frequently...we could make a film out of it!!
