Hi, this question is on behalf of someone else so sorry if any of the info. I've given is wrong. Apparently, a few weeks ago on Radio 2's jazz programme, they played a jazz arrangement of the hymn "It is well with my soul" sung by a black American singer. Does anyone know who it was, or have any more info. so I can find it to buy? It's too late to use 'listen again' unfortunately, and have checked the Radio 2 playlist and website but to no avail. Thanks in advance.

Hi Paddy_36.........

i e.mailed the DJ at radio 2 for you and i got this reply.........

"Hi there Chris,

Can you tell me exactly which programme this was heard on? (time/date
etc) If you can..then I can trawl through the ancient playlist database!

Kind regards,

Radio 2"

sooo......... if you can post that information i will pass it on and get the answer for you :)

Hi Chris! Huge thanks for finding this out for me, but my Dad can't remember exactly when he heard it. All he knows is it was around 8 weeks ago (maybe longer); the show was probably (but not definitely) 'the best of jazz', which is on between 8 and 9pm on a Monday. A bit vague for an answer, unfortunately. :o( The poor DJ would be there for hours trying to find it! It would be great if they could put all these databases online so we could merrily trawl through them ourselves! Very kind of you to email Radio 2, and thanks again.

hi........

it seems that just prior to your reply they also sent me this e.mail......

"Hi there

I've now checked with our producer and this was not one of our tunes on Best of Jazz. If you can remember when exactly you heard it, I can try and find out more information for you.

Best wishes
Helen "

however i will let them now that it was approximately 8+ weeks ago........ they seem ever so friendly and helpful and they may well enjoy the challenge of finding the track as much as i do helping people here! :)
here is the answer to not only my last e.mail to radio2 but also to your original question..........

"Hi there

I've checked with Humph but it's not encouraging news I'm afraid. The
singer in question was a gospel singer called Marion Williams and the
track is called "It Is Well". The LP that Humph has this on has been
unavailable for years apparently and never issued on CD. It's by The
Stars Of Faith and was on the Stateside label.

Good luck!
Helenx"

so there you have it :-)

Hi Chris and Vick!

Thanks loads for getting back to me with that info. I really, really appreciate it. Although that album is no longer available, I have just found the track on another CD by Marion Williams and the Stars of Faith. Fingers crossed it's the same version!

Thanks again from me. And my Dad!

All the best! :o)
