Slide Guitar /Acoustic Guitar Music

I love hearing buskers playing slide guitar /acoustic guitar and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions of artists who play like that? Trouble is, I don't really know the "category" of the music.  I am not into "twangy" country music, but  love the  blues and early soul music, all those rich voices (I don't think they play slide on early soul music!). Any suggestions would be gratefully received - thanks!

You really ought to dig up some Ry Cooder if you like that simple atmospheric slide guitar stuff. Something like the soundtrack to "Paris, Texas" will give you an idea of what he does.

Have a listen to Sonny Landreth, great 'zydeco' slide blues. Check out his latest 'live' cd 'Grant Street' and be prepared to be AMAZED !!!

Eric Sardinas does some pretty incredible stuff with a slide too, quite heavy though!

Not a big fan but Bruce Springsteen's version of 'Vigilante Man' is pretty useful as well, as is some of Chris Rea's earlier stuff (before he went all jazzy).

Jerry Donahue is another slide guitarist (he has a Fender Stratocaster named after him too).

Beck made two rad early albums, which he released on independent labels. They're called "Stereopathetic Soul Manure" and "One Foot InThe Grave". Both are full of fantastic slide and acoustic early blues.
