Shoppers Given Car Buying Advice

Those looking for a new car and motor insurance have been given some tips on how to snag the best deal.

Which? Car said although many people will be thinking about purchasing a used car, there are some great bargains to be had for new vehicles. The publication has listed "target discounts" which it is encouraging drivers to try and beat or at least match.

The consumer watchdog company has found that many manufacturers offer large discounts on new models, particularly if they are to be replaced in the near future. It also suggested calculating the depreciation of a brand new motor versus the price of a nearly new vehicle, because both can make financial sense depending on what car is bought.

The editor of Which? Car said: "If you can match our target discount, some new cars won't cost much more to run than used cars."

When buying a new car it is important to know exactly what you are looking for. Which fuel type, engine size, occupancy even colour should be thought about beforehand so you can go to the dealer forearmed and not get bullied into buying a car that does not fit your lifestyle.
