BMW Develops 1-Series Variants

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

BMW is one of the most popular makes on the road. They are known for performance and reliability. The car manufacturer is the first choice for UK motorists according to a recent survey by Auto Trader.

BMW is working to develop the so-far limited line-up of its 1-Series after almost two years on the market. The company is developing both a three-door hatch back and convertible models alongside new engines and body styles and a highly tuned M Class version.

The hatch back is scheduled for release early next year, priced from around £15,000, with the convertible following in due course. Unlike the 3 Series cabrio which is switching to a folding metal roof, the 1-Series will stay with traditional fabric, maintaining a low centre of gravity and preserving space.

It will be priced from £22,000, and will have the option of new 3.0-litre 360bhp and 2.0-litre 190bhp engines. The smaller engine will also be offered as a turbo, giving 230bhp.

A review by What Car? Said that the superb body control, loads of grip and a balanced feel provided by the front-engined, rear-wheel-drive chassis, the 1 Series is sure to appeal to enthusiastic drivers. The 1 Series offers an impressively refined environment for a small family hatchback.

The allure of the BMW badge means that it has stronger residual values than many other small hatches. Running costs are lower than average too, thanks to BMW's 'Efficient Dynamics' technology.
