What happens to your license when you reach 70 as regards to towing. If you passed your test prior to 1997 you are allowed to tow a trailer/caravan on that license without taking the towing test, but this licence expires when you reach your 70th birthday. Does this mean that all the people out there who are over 70 years old and have not taken and passed a towing test are driving illegally when they are towing their caravans etc.

On the same line but the difference is far greater, Young person learning to drive a HGV, the HGV has an empty Flat bed trailer behind them, this goes on for a week until he / she passes their test, Monday morn that person is driving a 44 toner with no experience of the way the load handles you tell me that is right & I will show my ars in Tesco.
As you don't have to retake the driving test when you reach 70(at the moment), I'd think that a towing test will not be required. Otherwise the same would be true for all drivers with 10 year photo licence.
