Does anyone live Nr Clacton Essex?
. We've got friends travelling from there tomorrow but if its too bad with the snow and ice I will phone them & sugest coming after xmas.
They are rather elderly (75) and I'm beggining to feel I'm a bit selfish asking them to come all this way in the freezing weather.

What would you do?

What will you do if they turn up and you get snowed in..........you could have them for months!!
I dont think I would like to drive very far if the weather is bad. As the Motoring orgs say"Is your journey essential? if not stay at home" Better if you phone them and suggest putting it off they may be dreading the journey but feeling guilty if they dont turn up

Jem, th Met office are advising that if your journey is not really necessary, then you should not travel, the roads are not good, so I would advice them to stay at home!......why put themselves at risk!......................
Hi Jem:

The forecast for the Clacton area tomorrow is for freezing fog, which will be slow to clear. The temperature throughout the morning will be -5C (which means that the roads could be icey), rising to -3C around tea time:

Once it gets light, you can check on fog levels in that part of Essex by taking a look at the webcam of Brightlingsea Sailing Club:

You're all spot on with your answers, I will phone first thing in the morning.

Why didn't I phone today. Doh! (probably because I was hoping for a THAW)

I'm about 20miles from Clacton and it's not foggy here this morning, it is flaming cold (about -10) but the main roads are clear and passable with no problems.
I'd say it depends how confident they are as drivers too - not to underestimate the difficulties on the roads at the moment. Good to hear the roads aren't too bad, chuck.

We have postponed our visiting until after xmas, I didn't have to phone - my friend phoned me. Unfortunately she had slpped off her back door step after feeding the birds, no broken bones thank goodness but a badly bruised knee. She said it made her feel sick and hasn't the confidence to go out again while its like this.
I quite understand, I'd feel the same.

Funny how little problems have a way of sorting themselves out isn't it?
