Question Author
Thanks mdoo98 had a good laugh at the maroon bit, but was really looking for specifics.
I have a 4x4 but in this weather they are only as good as the traffic in front,if traffic in front is stood or stuck and its a long line of traffic, then there is nowhere to go.
Does the F stand for front or four?
Count - F= fast
Don't worry, it hardly ever snows in this country.

4wd it is mdoo98, cars not my strong point. Still laughing about the maroon.
Try a Landrover Freelander (diesel)
How can anybody recommend Ford's Focus Auto is beyond me. They were obviously thinking just of car names!
If Auto ...STAY AWAY from Focus Automatics especially. One will end up costing you thousands. Fiestas can be bad enough.
Toyota can be ok .. but can be quite jerky. Check on a drive first.
I've just thought of another one Subaru Legacy (also diesel)
I have a 1999 Landrover Discovery Auto, in this weather, FANTASTIC. have upset a few people after being told "you wont get over there, or up that hill" low range, diff lock on up she went. Personally I would not hesitate in buying a landy, a bit juicy at times but practically with 7 seats, all round high visibility, great driving postion and a real feeling of safety.A Great, British motor too!

Thank you all for the advice, looks like a toss up between the landy or subaru.
Audi A3 4 wheel drive - not cheap though
