Hi. My son was caught without insurance, and as yourself it was a mistake as we thought he was insured. They took his car, took his licence and will have 6 points when it comes back. It is an automatic revication of a licence if in the first 2years of having a licence, which means new test and everything. Hope things workout.

what do you mean
its been cancelled without us knowing

no way would you have not known or been advised plus your boyfriend may not have been able to drive it anyway legally unless your policy stated

he was a named driver. my insurance company has cancelld my policy and didnt send a letter asking for certificate back
why did they cancel it?
Question Author
i changed bank details and gave new ones to insurance but they didnt change them so last payment defaulted as it came from old bank with no money in
I assume there's a lot more to this than you've told us.
Why was the insurance cancelled?
How long had you had the insurance?.
Was he listed as a named driver?
What ages are you both?
Had yyou paid the premiums/instalments on time?
Are you insured to drive an ddo you have a full licence?
Are you disqualified?
What what your mistake (you mentioned "my mistake").
Why would they do that? They would contact you to say something was wrong (like, you haven't paid the premium), not just cancel it without telling you. I don't understand how the police pulled you for having no insurance, you could be pulled and ask to produce insurance, did they spot you by number plate recognition?
Question Author
yes we both have full licences ive had policy for 8 months both 29 no disqulaifications as i said i changed bank details which they didnt put on system so i defaulted as they took it from other bank
ooh, that's dodgy changing banks if you have direct debits likely to come out - companies' records take a while to catch up, always worth leaving a bit of money in the old bank just in case something like this happens. However - I don't think they would just cancel, they would write to you or even email you to say that you were defaulting, they wouldn't just rip it up without telling you. How long ago did you change banks, it sounds as if you haven't paid for more than one month?

we drove past a car that has the machine that beeps
-- answer removed --
So you pay by instalments. How much notice did you give your insurance company and did you ask your old bank to transfer the direct debit over to your new account?
Did the insurer text/ring/write to you to let you know they hadn't been paid?
How many payments were missed?

he got a producer but the certificate is invalid i just dont want him losing his licence coz i didnt realise sooner
PS when I changed my bank, the new bank took the responsibility for changing all my direct debits - it was part of the deal. Did your bank not do this?

i had just made a payment through d/d then few days later called insurance to change for the following month but they kept my old details on file. next one would have been due next week. have got new insurance to get my car out of compound really dont want him to lose his licence why didnt they give me points what will happen will he get summons
He was driving, caila, I think that's the important aspect, it's the driver's responsibility to make sure that they have insurance in force, not you as passenger or car owner.
Question Author
even though im policy holder who pays will judge not tke that into account will he get banned or lose licnce
I don't know the detail of what might happen, caila, but I'm sure someone else might advise you - but I fear that you might also get into some trouble firstly for not having insurance yourself and secondly for letting someone without insurance drive your car. Ignorance of the policy being cancelled is not a mitigating fact in your favour.
Question Author
i dont care about me losing licence or getting fined i just dont wnat him to lose his because of my mistake hes being very calm about it but i know its hurting him inside i feel so guilty
So are you saying you hadn't missed any payments at the time of the offence?
Even millionaires make mistakes
