On Saturday my hubby bought a bike from a well known bike store, he has used the bike yesterday and today for work. When he came home from work last night he said he had problem getting home as the back wheel had buckled and sent him flying off it. Hubby then had a look at it and thought he had managed to sort it out, so this morning off he went on his bike again to work.

Hubby arrived at work this morning phoned me and said that the chain had now fallen off the bike, he fixed that and then said the gears were not working as he cant change gear. I have just phoned the cycle store up from where we brought the bike from and asked them if we could return the bike for a full refund as the bike is quite honestly dangerous. The store said that we have got to take the bike back so they can have a look at it and decide what they are going to do. I understand that but ive got a feeling that the store are going to try and fob me off with a repair or exchange so just wondering what my rights are on this one just in case they do try it on.

Just to add the bike was actually built by one of the people who actually work in the store so it was ready for collection and we have a certificate from the sayiong that the bike is/was safe and correctly built but obviously it isnt.

basically he (as he bought it) has to REJECT the bike and require a refund.
Exceptions would be if he had damaged it himself, bought an unsuitable bike, eg a kids bike. He needs to do it quickly and I would suggest in writing keeping a copy
