I have a Year 2002 BMW 318CI with 45000 miles. I have just received a 5500.00 repair bill for the engine.

I was told the timing chain slipped .

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

That's a lot of money, what, nearly 3700?

In a worse case scenario all 16 valves were bent when the timing belt slipped.  Other possible damage might include valve guides cracking, piston/bore/cylinder head damage.

Fitting 16 new valves and grinding them in, 16 valve guides, timing belt, head gasket, manifold gaskets, other associated gaskets, maybe new coolant, oil, time and labour... it all adds up!

Did the invoice specify what work was carried out and what parts were fitted?
