the government sponsored tv advert suggesting we all drive five miles less a week seemed like a sensible and reasonable request to me

i have been keeping a mileage log recently and on my way home last night i realised that i was just five miles short of my total for the previous week

i therefore pulled over and parked up and called the local taxi firm in order to complete my journey, a further seven miles

the taxi driver will be here soon to take me back to my car

then i can start my new weeks mileage log today starting with the journey home

i am so happy to behave so eco-responsibly

That's a bit of a swine then - you won't be able to get to church today, then.
The A303 in Somerset is being closed off for works, the diversion adds around 20 miles to an Eastbound journey and around another 6 to the Westbound. If you're doing this journey each day over the course of the closure you're looking at an extra 625 miles travelled for the year...so much for cutting down on carbon emissions
So you spend all that money on taxi's instead??? And you're still using a car so you've cancelled out any good you might have done.

Walk......
And of course, during the week you have driven "five miles less" one or possible even two new coal fired power station have been opened in China.
Ummmm I could be wrong but I guessing there is a hint of sarcasm in kinells post.
Hey....I wasn't long awake...get it now..lol
good idea buildersmate....I'll save mileage by missing church - will singalong with tv service.
or save miles and money by not picking the kids up from school each friday

Maybe you are one of the 2 out of 10 cats that don't have a preference. The other 8 just love sitting sitting curled up in front of the telly, watching the adverts.
10 Downing St, to the houses of Parliament daily????
Yes, instead of driving to the local pizza parlour on Saturday I now order a pizza that gets delivered to my door. That's my 5 mile saving.

I don't believe for a minute this will make even the tiniest dint in global warming (assuming it still exists) but I do think it's a good idea for health reasons to review whether the car is necessary for every journey- eg taking kids to school, driving less than a quarter of a mile for a paper.
If the government stopped their advertising ITV would collapse

Oh come on!

What about All Star Mr and Mrs?
Shouldn't that be five miles fewer? If so when the govt make such mistakes of grammar (I was taught as a rule of thumb: count - fewer, measure - less) how can we complain about the literacy levels of our young people>?
