Phone Euro Carparts (or similar) to get another price on the component. They specialise in sourcing non-OEM parts for foreign cars. But many of their sources are the same manufacturer as the OEM part.
Ask the garage whether they are getting the part from VW itself, or another source.

Don't know what I did wrong there but the link has gone haywire.

Any way the firm I found by Googling is called BBA reman
Unless your are accurate with what it is you are looking for you will end up with a wrong comparison. I TAKE IT YOU REQUIRE AN ABS ROTOR? Front or rear? If its a front one you can get an exchange drive shaft that will can with this rotor ring on it for fraction of this £600.
