Recenty got a car.
Previous owner lost V5 so I filled in form for change of ownership explaining on it I'm new keeper etc.

I shouldn't be charged the 25 fee for this but the DVLA have sent back the form asking me for the 25 fee.

Anyone else been in this situation and had the fee waived after contacting the DVLA?

Do not take this to heart, you were silly to bye the car without the V5 to start with, as you have now seen its costing you money before you start, the person that sold you the car should be re - applying for the V5 not you, this is a lesson learnt the hard way, as said, contact the seller and ask him / her to pay for the new V5.
Sounds suspicious. Hope you have proof the previous owner had the right to sell it to you.
if you have the new user slip green slip send this off with the app and its free

Have no slip but can't see why I should have to pay for someone else not applying for a replacement V5.

I shall phone them tomorrow.

What happens when owner dies and V5 is lost wiht them and family have to sell the car then what new owner still has to pay.
As said Cockney, never ever bye a car with no V5, It's like buying a car with no tyres, you may have learnt a lesson the hard way here.
It sounds very dodgy to me.
Someone else may come along soon and say the car is theirs. Then what will you do?

I have phoned the dvla and they are insisting that I pay the fee.

I've insured the car anyway and companies nowadays seem to have links to databases everywhere so I should have no worries about the car not being transferred in good faith.

I'll just have to remember this in future.
and you call yourself a cockney - shame on you - generations of `pearlies' will be twirling in their graves!
