Vectra probs!

I have just had a new battery in my Vectra and probs seem to be coming all the time. I'm not good with computerised cars but have this prob: where the HT leads should be, there are wires coming from spark plugs to a component (think it must be some sort of cold start valve/rotary arm??) which then is connected to the inlet pipe. Well this component was not connected to pipe, but pipe was plated off. I removed plate, connected this component which I found to be faulty, put plate back on, now car won't start. Ticks over but no ignition. The hazard lights come on intermittently also which makes me think some immobiliser/alarm has been triggered but not sure. Any help would be appreciated, know it's long-winded, but this one has me baffled?
