Selling a Number Plate

My car was purchased with a personalised number plate and now I want to sell the plate. What are the legalities and what do I have to do in order to sell it and how do I go about getting a standard number plate?

You can either sell the number plate privately or offer it to a dealer. (Exchange & Mart used to be full of adverts from such dealers. I've not bought it for several years but it might be a good place to start looking for a dealer who'd be interested in the plate).

i know the car must be in your name and for some crazy reason must be mot,ed..dvla will soon put you right
When I sold a personalised number plate I had to pay �105.

And put it on retention.
