I looked on the following web site and in the bottom left hand corner it says "Since 2003 manufacturers can no longer demand that you have your car serviced by an expensive franchised dealer. Thanks to changes in EU legislation, an independant garage can carry out the work without invalidating the manufacturers warranty. These changes could save you hundreds of pounds a year."

I was telling someone at work about it and they told me to check the small print from the dealer - in my case Vauxhall.

I cant find it on any documents, where am i likely to get this information because Vauxhall aren't going to tell me i dont need to go there to get my car serviced!

If the garage is VAT registered and uses original Vauxhall parts and stamps the service book accordingly then your warranty stays valid. MAYBE just Maybe a problem if you goback to Vauxhall at a later date and want warranty work undertaken and they state that the parts used were not original, have heard a few stories like this.
most car companies put conditions on this, the main 2 are that the garage is registered VAT and that they use parts from the dealer and not cheap parts.
The work must be carried out to main dealer spec by a qualified technician using either main dealer parts or parts of equivalent quality. Otherwise it does not invalidate your warranty at all.

None of these answers your question which was where can you verify this information. Anyone know? I suggest you ask your garage or one of the motoring organisations..

I even heard the other day that Ford agreed to cover a part under warranty that was not even theirs. Perhaps someone's got some info on that.

manufacturers also stipulate that along with being vat registered and using genuine parts the services must be carried out in accordance with their specifications.
