My mate (i swear) got done for drink driving...

He had his licence for about 2 months before getting done...was his first offence.

I think blew about 80 on the breath test.....

He got banned for 24months but reduced to 18 if he went on some course.

What i want to know is does he have to retake any tests, or does it depend on what the migistrate said....is it clear cut, or does it depend...

Oh and if anyone wants to be exrta helpful, what will happen if he doenst inform his insurance company of his ban when he gets his licence back?

Unless magistrates specifically ordered a re-test (and they are unlikely to have done so in the circumstances you describe) no re-test is required.

The conviction must be declared to insurers. If it is not and this is discovered the insurer will retrospectively cancel the policy and leave your friend open to a charge of driving without insurance.
