I have a ford focus zetec 2001 (1.8, petrol) and my engine cooling fan sometimes stays running so long it runs down the battery. Engine isn't over heating as when I unplug the fan, leave it overnight and then re-connect, fan starts up again (when car hasn't even been started). Checked the relay and it works, anyone have any ideas? 3 garages couldn't figure it out!
