The car has failed its MOT. It has only 70k miles and has just had oil/air filter and oils changed. We have tried a fuel additive/cleaner and also changed the temperature control valve but CO2 is still way too high.

The car goes well and is not an oil burner. Any body got any ideas what to do. MOT garage hasn't encountered this one before.

Could be a faulty oxygen sensor (the great Tesco petrol fiasco ) or a knackered catalytic converter.I'm surprised the MOT garage aren't more helpful. High CO2 isn't that unusual.
ask them to do a mock emmissions test. when i tested the emmissions on k series rover engines they were notoriously difficult to get within the specified limits and you had to run them for ages at 2500/3000 rpm until it was at proper working temperature. they probably only had it hooked up for about 2 mins and just failed it the lazy ********.
maybe the Cat has gone capoot?
