Noticed my Volvo S60's handling was a bit odd and found the n/s rear shock absorber is failing and showing fluid leakage.

It's 5 years old but under a Volvo warranty so has been booked in for repair.

The Volvo dealer tell me that only the defective shock absorber will be replaced - surely both should be replaced as a pair ?

both should be replaced, but as its a warrantee job they will only replace the defective one, unless you pay for the other one.
If it was not under warranty the dealer would recommend both be replaced as they should be fitted in pairs.

I asked for a price for the o/s to replaced at the same time - 364 just for the part ex. VAT !!

I declined. Horrified at the cost when I can buy an OEM shock online for under 100. For the price they are quoting for the part I could buy a full set of springs & adjustable shocks all round.
