i have got a 99 ford focus which has a space saver wheel, i was just wondering could i replace the space saver with a steel rim of the same size as the normal wheels, so i can drive at speeds greater than 50mph and would it fit in the space provided

Yes you can fit a normal size spare - but it will sit higher than the floor of the car, so can look odd on the boot.
