Anybody had a fine for no car tax?
My husband received a letter today from DVLA issuing him with a fine as his car tax ran out end of Dec 06. I went straight to the Post Office to tax it and the lady behind the counter stated that lots of people had been in with fines because they didn't receive a reminder. My mum also said that there was a postal strike in Dec. We honestly didn't receive the reminder (I know we shouldn't have relied on that and wrote it on the calendar). Do you think it's worthing appealing about? The lady at the Post Office said it was worth a try. Trouble is, the fine is �40 if you pay by end of March, or �80 if you pay by end of April. If you write a letter of appeal, surely they're going to not bother replying until after the the cheapest fine date. They're just going to want to make money aren't they? I've just taxed my car at end of Feb, and we haven't ever not had tax before, it was a genuine case of forgetting when it ran out. Do you think it's worth appealing or just put it down to experience? TIA

Why post on a forum such as this when you KNOW it is your own responsibility to check when your tax runs out. What did you expect - sympathy?
I don't check my tax disc every day but I know roughly when I last paid and therefore when it is (roughy) next due.
Btw, I am no angel, I have quite often driven with my tax disc a week or so out of date, but if I got caught, I would know it was my own fault and just cough up.

What a helpful lot you are!! The actual question was 'anybody had a fine for no car tax?' So, why post on here if you haven't had a fine? Do you not understand english? Obviously not. Oh well, you all live such sad little lives that you spend all evening writing about stuff that you have no experience of.
AB has gone so downhill that it's now just full of saddos that have nothing constructive to say and just try and upset everybody. Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't give a rat's arse what you think.
Perhaps in future, you'd all be better off polishing your halos rather than replying to questions that obviously don't concern you. To reiterate, can you all read? The question was 'Anybody had a fine for no car tax?' If you haven't then it's obvious that you don't qualify to reply doh!!

Oh, so you're an old fart, pretending to be a boy-racer. Yes, I am also very able with numbers as well as english, but am I supposed to be psychic to know you were born in 1960. Perhaps all that time ago you didn't need to learn to read and write. Don't worry, it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's just that your true age doesn't come across in your replies.
Taz - come on now - these people have tried to help you with your question and all you can do now is insult them.
Driving a car is a responsibility - not just on the road physically driving the vehicle but in organizing the things that go with it, ins, tax MOT etc.It's easily done to maybe forget by a couple of days - but two months ?? It's the drivers responsibility to ensure his car is roadworthy everytime he gets into it and yes I do check my car regularly. I have a mobile phone which I put reminders on, calendars & like Ethel said - you can also do it in Microsoft Outlook in the Calendar part.
We're not all perfect and we all make mistakes, I'm sure everyone would agree. Driving without Tax is a mistake that carries a very small fine. Now if these people who drive around without insurance received the same �40 fine - I'd be with you but they don't. The fine is always relative to the offence. There not asking for 3 points or for you to retake your test. It's a �40 fine!
Take your punishment and move on in life. I know for certain you will not do it again - so look at it as the Joys of Motoring !
It's always best though not to criticise the people who try to help you.

almcd007 - Did you notice that I only became a little rude after people criticising and being sarcastic, and really not offering genuine advice. I think the only real advice came from Ethel and a couple of others who said an appeal would be worth a try. Just because we happened to genuinely forget to tax the car, they all came out of the woodwork to have a pop. Anybody would think I have committed a murder. If they were helpful and courteous I wouldn't have resorted to rudeness.
I have seen much of this with other threads on AB, where people just seem to have nothing better to do than go off on one for the sake of it.
