He loved it and was sad to see it go is what I got from that article. I do not usually drive from North Wales to London so I doubt I'd get that range anxiety he's lumbered with. I go 20 miles per day to work so it would probably suit me

I'll stick the Jaaag for now!

not an option if you can't charge it at home...

I wouldn't have an electric car given. Why? Too many drawbacks. 1. I know where most of the charging points are in my area, but what if I go to a part of the country that I don't know? If I want petrol, the signs are all up there for all to see: Shell, Esso, BP. But where are the signs for charging points?

2. Electric cars can catch fire. Radio news reports often mention that a road is closed because a car is on fire. An electric car? Probably.

3. If I take my electric car to a filling station that has charging points, I may have to wait some time to get on to a point. Even then, I understand that not all charging points are the same, so the point there may not fit my car.

No thank you! I do not want an electric car, at any price!

bednobs: I'm not saying don't buy one, I'm saying if you are, it's worth reading the article.

I wonder about the £45 every time you insert your card, (somehow refundable) & he did it 5 times on that trip. Plus one and a half hours in McDonalds for a 'rapid charge' sounds a bit gruesome.

Not for me.  Hopeless for long journeys.

Not worth the bother of having a car at all.The Just Stop Oil mob will kill you if you have a petrol/diesel car,the anti-Musk mob will kill you if you have an electric car.Why bother?

Because I don't want to walk 7 miles to the nearest supermarket - and 7 miles back again carrying shopping.

If I went electric at all it would be hybrid, and that seemed to be his conclusion too.

A friend has a Qashqai e-power hybrid. The engine just charges the batteries which provide the drive. He only gets 45 mpg which is significantly less than a pure diesel would do.

Our friends have a hugely expensive electric narrowboat that they live on. When there isn't enough power in the batteries a diesel generator kicks in to charge them. They, too, are spending more on diesel than they did in their previous boat.

The electric one is up for sale if your interested. Less than two years old

No, if I want a toy car, I'll buy a Dinky.

If all you car owners gave up your vehicles, then the existing inadequate facilities available to those of us who can't drive would have to improve.  At present we are such a small sector we are abused by the ogre of commercialism 😉

You would love the transport policy of a Torocracy canary!

I understand your point, Canary.  The hospital is a 6 minute drive from my house (plus ages drives round and round looking for a blerdy parking space) but to get there by bus involves at least two buses (depending on time of day) and a minimum of 70 minutes.  How they have managed to cover such a large distance to travel such a short way is a mystery.  No hope of bus travel on Sunday
